Things to Keep In Mind
When you are modifying an asset type, there are several things to take into consideration.
- You should have the appropriate permission granted by the admins to be able to modify the attributes of existing asset types.
- If a standard attribute for your asset type is set to Hide, then assets belonging to that asset type will not have a value for that attribute. If you change an attribute from Hide to View, the system will ask you whether you want to add this attribute to previously created assets.
- If you change an asset type attribute to Required, only assets added after the change will have that attribute as a requirement.
Permission to Update Asset Types
To be able to modify asset types, you should have the Full permission enabled for the Manage Asset Types access level. Those of you with the Read Only permission can only view asset types, with no ability to make any changes. Learn more about user roles and access levels in Asset Manager Administration.
Modifying an Asset Type
SC Mobile users can also modify asset types when certain attributes are selected for editing.
- Locate and click an asset type from the list to open its details.
- Make the required modifications.
Close the asset type details page to save the modifcations.
You can update the following asset type information:
- Asset type name
- Primary trade
- Additional trades
- Standard attributes
- Custom attributes
- Attachments and links
- Other information based on your account settings
If required, you can temporarily deactivate an asset type or delete it.
You can also navigate to the asset type details page via the assets list.
- From the Manage Assets page, click the Asset Type on the required asset.
- On the Manage Asset Type page, make the needed modifications.
Merging Asset Types
When the asset types list becomes too lengthy or asset types are starting to resemble each other, they can be merged into one. This can be used for maintaining and updating the list as well as having accurate asset types.
- Locate and click an asset type from the list to open its details
- Click the Rename link to open the modal
- Use the drop-down arrow to select an asset type
- Click the Save button to merge the asset type
- Click Yes to confirm the merge.
