Reporting on Chronically Leaking Appliances

Summary

Appliances that leak 125% or more of their full charge in a calendar year are considered chronically leaking.

Identifying Chronically Leaking Appliances

Chronically leaking appliances are appliances that contain 50 or more pounds of ozone-depleting refrigerant and leak 125% or more of their full charge in a calendar year.

The leak rate calculation method for a chronic leaker is different from the leak rate calculation method for when refrigerant is added to an HVAC or refrigerated appliance.

Formula for calculating the chronic leak rate

Behind the scenes, the system calculates the chronic leak rate for each refrigerated and HVAC appliance that exists in your Asset Manager database and that uses more than 50 pounds of refrigerant.

The chronic leak rate appears on the asset details page. When the rate meets or exceeds the threshold of 125%, the rate gets highlighted in red as in the screenshot below.

Using the Chronic Leaking Assets Only filter on the filters panel of the assets list, you can quickly find chronic leakers across your locations.

Downloading the Report on Chronically Leaking Appliances

Having chronically leaking assets at your locations requires you to report on them to the EPA by March 1. The report must describe efforts to identify leaks and repair the appliance.

⦿ How to Download the Report on Chronically Leaking Appliances
  1. Navigate to the hamburger menu, and select Assets (Equipment) > Refrigerant Leak Events.

  2. Click Download Chronic Leak Report.

  3. Select the required Unit of Measure and the Year you would like to run the report for.

An MS Excel report on chronically leaking assets is downloaded to your device.

The information in the report is divided into three tabs: Assets, Parts, and Leak Records.
