The EPA requires that any system or stand-alone device that uses 50 pounds of refrigerant or more must keep detailed records on the total system charge, the type of refrigerant used the date of the last charge and the amount used during the last charge. Additionally, companies must:
- Keep records of every refrigerant used for the last three years;
- Calculate leak rates every time refrigerant is added;
- Keep a record of each event that exceeded EPA threshold;
- Resolve leaks within thirty days; and
- Create retrofit or retirement plans for any leaks not fixed within thirty days.
