When you are modifying an asset type, there are several things you need to take into consideration.

  • You should have the appropriate permission granted by the admins to be able to modify the attributes of existing asset types.
  • If a standard attribute for your asset type is set to Hide, then assets belonging to that asset type will not have a value for that attribute. If you change an attribute from Hide to View, the system will ask you whether you want the now viewable attribute to be viewable for all previously added assets for that asset type.
  • Any modifications made will only show after the modification is made, when the assets under that asset type are referenced in a service request or report.
  • If you change an asset type attribute to Required, only assets added after the change will have that attribute as a requirement. The attribute field will be added to the existing assets.
Note

To be able to modify asset types, you should have the Full permission enabled for the Manage Asset Types access level. Those of you with the Read Only permission can only view asset types, with no ability to make any changes. Learn more about user roles and access levels in Asset Manager Administration
