CARB Reporting


The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is charged with protecting the public from the harmful effects of air pollution and developing programs and actions to fight climate change. From requirements for clean cars and fuels to adopting innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, California has pioneered a range of effective approaches that have set the standard for effective air and climate programs for the nation, and the world. ServiceChannel has enhanced Service Automation and Provider Automation to be able to monitor, collect and report on assets that fall under the purview of the California Air Resources Board. These assets include all HVAC and Refrigerated assets that contain more than 50 pounds of ozone depleting gases and are housed and operated in the state of California.

Identifying, Designating and Setting Up Assets for

Carb

CARB Reporting

All HVAC and Refrigerated assets that fall under the purview of CARB must be reported on annually. Therefore theses assets must be identified in Service Automation before the annual CARB report is produced. Currently, there are 3 ways to designate that an asset should be included in the annual CARB report:

  • Upon asset creation;
  • Manually one by one; or
  • Via template

The method or methods that you choose should be based on the number of assets that need to be included in the CARB report.

Identifying Assets that should be Included in the CARB Report


All Assets that contain 50 lbs/22.6796 kg or more of designated Greenhouse Gases must be reported on annually. Identifying which assets fall into the aforementioned category is a simple process in Service Automation’s Asset Manager.

title⦿ How to Identify and Designate Assets that should be included in the CARB Report via Template
  1. Navigate to Assets (Equipment) > Manage Assets > Assets tab.

  2. Check Show Deactivated Assets & Show Only Refrigerant.

    Note

    Note: DIsplaying deactivated assets will provide the user with the ability to select assets that may have be deactivated during the current reporting period, and therefore are required to be included in the annual CARB Report.


  3. Click the Export Assets button, then select the All Attributes option.

  4. Open the downloaded file in your preferred spreadsheet reader.

  5. Review the file to ensure that all of the assets have either Refrigeration or HVAC as the primary trade.

  6. Scroll to the last column on the spreadsheet, which should be named Is Tracked by CARB.

  7. Enter TRUE for each asset that should be included in the CARB report:
    1. Save the spreadsheet as an XLSX formatted file. 
  8. Navigate to Assets (Equipment) > Imported Assets.
  9. Click Upload Assets.

  10. Click Select .xlsx File (With Custom Attributes).
  11. Select the .xlsx file you just created.
  12. Service Automation will run the file through a validation process. If it passes, the file will display Validated under the Current Status field.

title⦿ How to Designate Assets that are to be Included on the CARB Report Upon Asset Creation
  1. Navigate to Assets (Equipment) > Manage Assets.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Begin the process of adding an Asset’s information.
  4. Check the box Is tracked by CARB.
  5. Complete the Asset’s information, then click save.

    The Asset will now be included in the CARB Report.

title⦿ How to Manually Designate Assets that are to be Included on the CARB Report
  1. Navigate to Assets (Equipment) > Manage Assets > Assets tab.
  2. Click the Asset’s ID link.
  3. Select the Asset Details tab.
  4. Check the Is CARB Reporting checkbox.

  5. Finally, click the Save Changes button to save the changes.

title⦿ How to Run the CARB Report
  1. Navigate to Assets (Equipment) > Administration.
  2. Click Refrigerant Leak Settings.

  3. Check the box next to Run Carb Report, then click the Save button.
  4. Navigate to Assets (Equipment) > Refrigerant Leak Events.
  5. Click the  Download CARB Report button.

  6. Select the From and To date range, using the calendar selector.
  7. Click the Run Report button. 
  8. The CARB report will be produced as an XML document, ready to be uploaded to the CARB portal.
