When modifying an asset type, you are actually modifying the values set for that asset. When modifying an asset type, there are several options that need to be taken into consideration. First, if an attribute is set to hide, then assets under that asset type will not have a value for that attribute. If you change an attribute from hide to view, the system will prompt you with a query as to whether or not you want the now viewable attribute, viewable for all previously added assets for that asset type.
Users with the appropriate permissions can modify the attributes of an existing asset type. Any modifications made will only show after the modification is made, when the assets under that asset type is referenced in a service request or report. Additionally, if you change an attribute to required, only assets added after the change will have that attribute as a requirement. The attribute field will be added to the existing assets.
